Pink Ribbon Month

October is internationally known as Breast Cancer Month. The Pink Ribbon is the official trademark of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

I hope I'm not too late in doing my bit in creating more awareness of the Pink Ribbon. At the very least, it serves as a reminder to myself. This comes after losing people I know and of many others who lost their lives to breast cancer.

In memory of a good friend's mother who lost her battle with breast cancer.

Ouch...!!!

While at the mall last evening, I made a quick trip to the ladies. Went into one cubicle and closed the door. Found that the door couldn't close. So I tried a little harder. Then I heard a little boy screaming just outside.

I opened the door to have a look. Oh goodness! It was the screaming boy's fingers that was causing the door not to close! Where did the boy come from??? Feeling really bad about it, I apologised to the boy's mom and asked if he was hurt. But she ignored me and tried to pacify her boy.

So I went back in. Next moment I heard the boy's mother scolding me from outside with both of them hitting at my door. She kept telling her boy that 'I'm bad' and she's 'hitting me' for causing him pain.

I came out and she was still at it.

Me : What are you doing?

Boy's mom : Oh, just 'hitting you' to tell my boy you are bad.

Me : I'm bad???

Boy's mom : Ya, you hurt his fingers.

Me : Have you thought that it's his own fault and he shouldn't have put his fingers there?

Boy's mom : He doesn't understand that.

Me : If he CAN understand that 'I'm bad' for causing him pain, he CAN understand that he's wrong for putting his fingers there in the first place!

By this time, everyone in the ladies are enjoying themselves watching us. You can tell by the smiles on their faces!

Boy's mom : You should've looked before closing the door.

Me : Excuse me for not looking out for 'little fingers' at the door!

Boy's mom : Aiyo, what's so difficult to let him think it's your fault?

Me : It's not difficult but ridiculous! Anyway, it's his fingers!! Good luck then if he can't keep his hands off toilet doors!!!

I walked off after that. No point wasting my time. I know..I know.., it's not my line to tell her how to teach her child. But I resent being 'used' as the subject of a 'wrong lesson'!

Ever wonder why some kids grow up to be the way they are?

Happy = 1 diner???

Last weekend I was passing by a small fishing village in Kuala Selangor, when I decided to stop for a bite.

Ok, it was more than a bite considering all the seafood we ordered. Baked crabs, oyster omelette, deep fried calamari and grilled prawns. Boy, the servings were huge!

**Sorry, no pics as it was on impulse and I didn't lug along my camera**

When the waiter came to serve us, he placed 3 glasses of water, 3 plates, 3 bowls and 3 sets of fork and spoon. I just gave it a passing thought at that time.

Did I mention that there were 2 humans and 1 dog?

Somehow, between the 2 humans, we managed to clear the plates off every morsel. Do we deserve an applause? *clap clap clap*

So when it comes to settling the bill, that's when 'my passing thought' became an "item in the bill". I was actually billed for 3 DINERS instead of 2! Now that also explains the extra large servings.

Me : Why 3 pax?

Cashier : Eh, not 3 people?

Me : Does SHE look like human?? (me pointing to Happy)

The cashier craned her neck to look over my table. 1 human and 1 dog looked back at her. Then she turned and gave me a sheepish smile.

Cashier : Ok, me no charge 3, cancel 1.

Right, when we left the restaurant, I tossed my car keys to Happy. Ought to be her turn to drive since the cashier acknowledged her as a full paying diner!

How Far Do You Trust...

Automated cash deposit machine?

Recently a friend went to the bank to deposit some cash. As you all know, nowadays most banks do not accept cash deposit over the counter, we have to deposit them via their deposit machine.

After slotting in the cash, the amount displayed on the screen did not tally, short of $1000. Without thinking, my friend just hit on the 'accept' button. That was a mistake.

He went to the bank to lodge a report. They said they'll check and let him know at the end of the day. So he thought that's fine.

NO, it wasn't fine. He didn't hear from the bank at the end of the day. So he called up the next day.

NO, there wasn't any extra $1000 in the machine. CASE CLOSED. PERIOD. FULL STOP.

Right, after venting out some frustrations to all who listened, there's quite a compilation of similar cases experienced by others. One even claimed that the bank he went to said that the machines are operated by an independent contracting company, so they (being the bank) have no direct dealings with the deposits. So in that case, where are they depositing the money with, the bank or the independent company? Does it make any sense?

Of course, there are bound to be fake claims and reports made by dishonest customers, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE GENUINE ONES?

Time to take out our old milk tins and clear some space under our beds?
