Down Happy Memory Lane...

Last Thursday we celebrated Happy's 6th anniversary. We didn't always blog from the beginning, so here we'd like to share how we came into each other's life and heart...

LS :

While walking one evening, I came across a lady with her two dogs and their two little pups. I stopped to admire. The owner asked if I would like one as she had two more at home.

The papa silky had a deep blue tan. He watched me quietly with an air of aloofness. The mama silky, an overall golden tan. She was more chatty and friendly. The two pups had her personality. Both looked at me with big adorable eyes.

I followed those big adorable eyes home. There I saw two more pups in the garden. One came greeting excitedly. The other sat watching me. Quiet and aloof. How very like papa.

I told the lady I would think about it. Few days later I decided on the active one. But it was already taken. A quiet and aloof pup would be just as sweet.

I still remember the first time I brought her home. She was trembling all the way in the car. Not a sound from her on the first night. I thought I was going to have a very quiet pup.

I was wrong. That was the only two occasions she was quiet. Except when she's asleep. Or got herself into trouble. She's pure energy and very chatty. Appearance can be very deceiving. I was to learn later that she's the only one that has her papa's look. The rest of her are purely mama's. She'd do her mama proud.

Life with her certainly is no bed of roses. At least, she makes sure that all roses are yanked out just as soon as my back is turned. Still, she's such a joy to live with.

This picture was taken a while back. Happy's favourite hairstyle. Her hair always fall on one side of her face.

Happy :

I don't remember much of my puppy days. They were such a long time ago, especially in our dog years! LS said I was slightly more than 3 months old when she took me home.

I did remember my family telling me that one funny lady was stalking them and followed them home. When I heard that, I didn't go near her. I know I wasn't supposed to talk to strangers.

Few days later I was told that I'd have a new home with this funny lady. I was told to be on my best behaviour. It was really hard, especially when I get to go on a car ride with her. I was trembling from all the controlled excitement. Still, I managed to behave.

The first evening was a bit strange. The lady kept repeating the word "Happy" to me. Yes, I know she's happy to have me. But was there any need to repeat it the whole night?

It only dawned on me the next day that my new name's Happy. She changed my name. Do you always have your name now?

And, I found that being on my best behaviour was tiring and boring. So I decided that I'd be better off being my true self. We should always be ourselves, shouldn't we?

Life with LS isn't always an endless bowl of yummy treats and snacks, but I'm happy where I am.

Oops, what a long post! Hope everyone is still awake at this point heh...

The girl called Shalon gave me my name and it has never been changed. The first time I saw Pappy I climbed into his lap and that is where I have pretty much stayed. Life is good.

Thanks for the flashback. You seem destined for each other. Funny how first impressions of dogs and humans can be wrong sometimes.

It is nice to reflect on how you came to be together! My humans changed my name from Athensi Serenade to Kess. They figured it was much easier to call!

Hi Happy,
I loved your story on how you and LS got together. The first meeting is always so special and something that we'd never forget.
I have no idea if I had another name before I came to stay with my mom.. but if there is one, I am sure it's 'Handsome'.. Hehhee.. and I think my little sister's name would've been 'Terror'/ 'Rebel'/ 'Chaos' or something along that line before mom named her Hershey.

Hi,! I just came across your blog, following a link from Noah's blog. I noticed you said you treat Happy's coat with olive oil and I can see from this photo how lovely her coat is.
How do you actually use the oil?

Hey there Happy :) what a sweet story :) mommy and I were destined together too. My mommy actually chose my sister over me but thankfully someone has already adopted her. Mommy chose her over me, because I was so small and skinny so she was quite worried. :) mommy is sooo very happy to have me.

Hi Happy

What a nice gotcha story. You have a great home life. My name used to be Patches before I was adopted. They had even shaved a patch on my back to tell us apart.

Hi, Happy -

What a "happy" story with a "happy" ending. Mama and Papa had my (Hershey) name picked out before I was even born.

Kaci came into our family when my older sister (Bosco) was here. She was a gift from Mama, Papa and Uncle Paul for my Grammy. Originally the family tried to name her Shania - after Shania Twain. Grammy finally decided on Kaci instead of Shania.

Thanks for telling us your story.

Love -
