Thankful Thursday

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12

Today we're thankful for being keepers. You might ask what exactly does that mean LOL.

We received this from someone who thinks we are a 'keeper'. So we are sharing it here with everyone we think of in the same way!

A Keeper

Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, work shirt and a hat; and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, and dish-towel in the other. It was the time for fixing things: a curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things we keep.

It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, re-heating leftovers, renewing; I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be more.

But when my mother died, and I was standing in that clear morning light in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more.

Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never to return. So... While we have it, it's best we love it... And care for it... And fix it when it's broken... And heal it when it's sick.

This is true: For marriage... And old cars... And children with bad report cards... Dogs and cats with bad hips... And aging parents... And grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep, like a best friend that moved away or a classmate we grew up with.

There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special... And so, we keep them close!

Read this quote at Mona and the Mommy's, which we totally agree!

Good friends are like stars... You don't always see them, but you know they are always there!

Happy:

LS said she's getting rid of the coffee table in order to get rid of my quirky habit of napping on it.

Can you see my stunned look?

Then she said it's just a joke! Phew!

So today I'm thankful for the coffee table. Where else can I take a cool nap on a cool glass surface...I'm also thankful for LS' quirky sense of humour. It has better be just a joke!

Has anyone here being asked to get rid of any quirky habits so far?

Oh yes, you guys are so clever! The picture was for the begging event indeed. Well, that's all for my entries. At least, LS said she's done with all the rummaging through the albums.

Hope everyone is having a thankful time with everyone's 'keepers'.

How blessed and precious You & Happy! Thank you for reminding us
of our days (Ps. 90) and those that are KEEPERS! Not so much the things but the people! God bless your memories of your mom! May she now find rest, peace and no more suffering! Keep her in your good memories!

I can't figure out how Happy you nap on a coffee table...not under it but on the glass! You watch your nails scratching or LS may get rid of your keeper!!! Behave!
Take good care of each other! My 5 say HI HAPPY! Chimi especially!

Thank you for blessing me with your visit! Simple words some how make BIG impressions when concise and meaningful! Be blessed at Serendipity Park as you bless!

Happy, tell your mom to post a photo of you on your coffee table. I'll bet you look very...well, Happy.

Chewing on table corners has its merits - you could say that it's better than chewing on a designer handbag or a pair of leather pumps your human just bought for that really stylish party, or something like that!

Why does LS tease you about the coffee table? Is it your keeper and not hers?

Thanks for dropping by my Writing Nook. To answer your question, Meeko is an Alaskan Malamute. The breed is bigger than a husky and the ears and nose are a bit different.

I hope you will drop by again. It's nice to meet new friends.

That was a lovely story. I am so thankful that there are people in this world that are keepers, like dog rescuers who keep the doggies that bad peoples throw away. I knoe I was one of them throw aways.

Everyone is certainly a keeper. Sis was just saying yesterday how she couldn't believe that the lady that we got Callie from didn't want her because she was deaf. She was saying that all animals deserve a chance no matter what their handicaps maybe. I think Mom and Dad raised a very smart little girl...We love you Jessica..

We were tossing it around and he learned to fetch with it. So it became his. He was a good dog. Never touched another shoe. He had is own! Daisy and I will have to come by this week and meet Happy.
I am off now to post my daybook entry.

Thanks for sharing this, Happy.. It is so meaningful. It just so like us to take things for granted sometimes, especially people whom we love. We never tell them enough how much they mean to us and how much we love them, until it is too late!
